Palliative Medicine

We are there through and through

underline

The Palliative Medicine service at The Karen Hospital provides specialised holistic care to patients and family members who are facing a serious or life-threatening illness. Palliative care is appropriate at any stage of a serious illness and can be provided at the same time as active treatment.

With special training and skills in pain control and management of other symptoms, the team addresses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs so that it is possible for patients and their family members to enjoy a good quality of life.

Our Clinical Services

The Palliative Medicine service is committed to provide our patients with a high level of patient-centred care. Our team provides outpatient and inpatient palliative consultation services to patients and family members with a serious or life-threatening illness. We also work closely with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, medical social workers, and other community partners to coordinate the care needs of our patients. This may include advice on arrangements for a patient attendant or a home nurse, special equipment such as oxygen supply, or a hospice home care service to provide ongoing advice and support for the patient and family at home. The Palliative Medicine team can also advise on possible inpatient admission.
