Thank you for considering The Karen Hospital as your Health care provider.

The wellness clinic runs from Monday to Friday 8.00 am – 5.00 pm and Saturday 8 am-noon.

Kindly note that you are supposed to come as early as 8.00 am due to fasting and the process involved. Afternoons are scheduled just for patient review or tests and screening only.

The duration of each health screening package varies. On average, the entire health screening process including a doctor's medical examination will take 4 – 8 hours depending on the selected health screening package. Pap smear results take 14 working days. Mammograms, X-rays, and MRI reports take 24 hours to be reported.

Saturday’s appointments are scheduled from 8.00 am-noon for reviews, tests, and/or screening.

Kindly present yourself at The Karen Hospital main branch along Langata Road Karen. We are located on the ground floor next to the main reception.

In preparation, you are expected to do the following:

  • Get enough sleep, at least 6 hours, before the check-up. Lack of sleep may cause abnormal results such as blood pressure, heartbeat, and body temperature. The doctor may not be able to assess if any change is a real abnormality.
  • Do not eat or drink at least 8 – 10 hours before the check-up. Water, however, may be freely taken to avoid dehydration effects on blood sugar and cholesterol tests in the program.
  • Please do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before the appointment as drugs and alcohol may affect some tests. Please inform the doctor or nurse before the test.
  • If you are taking medicine for hypertension, you can continue taking it as per the doctor’s prescription.
  • If you have a chronic illness or other health problems, please bring any test results or medical report with you to assist in diagnosis.
  • Wear comfortable clothes; should wear clothing allowing access to the upper arm.
  • Avoid 7 days before or after the menstrual period for females. If you are menstruating, you should not have urine analysis because there will be blood contamination which affects the interpretation of the result.
  • Breast cancer screening by Digital Mammogram should avoid having the test during the menstrual period as the breast is tense at that time. The patient should have a mammogram after the period.

NB:

  • If pregnant, please inform the staff to cancel the x-ray and Pap smear.
  • Fasting is mandatory for patients who will be taking the ultrasound abdomen test.
  • Before undergoing a pelvic ultrasound, you will be required to drink several glasses of
water. Please avoid urinating for about one hour before the examination time. When the
bladder is full, it forms a convenient path for the ultrasonic waves, known as the acoustic
    window.
  • When collecting urine samples, collect mid-stream samples. Start to pee and collect a “mid-stream” sample of urine in the container
  • Avoid red meat two days before the check-up
